The Brave New Girls Anthologies
Edited by Mary Fan and Paige Daniels, these collections of sci-fi stories feature brainy young heroines who use their smarts to save the day. Girls who fix robots and construct superhero suits, hack interstellar corporations and build virtual reality platforms. Who experiment with new-fangled devices and tinker with time machines. Who defy expectations and tap into their know-how—in the depths of space, or the bounds of dystopia, or the steampunk-y past, or the not-too-distant future—to solve despicable crimes, talk to extraterrestrials, and take down powerful villains.
Revenues from sales of this anthology will be donated to the Society of Women Engineers scholarship fund. Let’s show the world that girls, too, can be tomorrow’s inventors, programmers, scientists, and more. Learn more at bravenewgirls.weebly.com. Brave New Girls covers by Streetlight Graphics. |

A new mom who adopts two babies with special powers. A hard-boiled detective who stumbles upon a mystery while looking for childcare. A grandma who fights back against an unsavory mayoral candidate. A witch who battles dark magic while wrangling her kids. An artificial intelligence who nurtures delinquent boys sent to her care. And much, much more. LOVE, MURDER & MAYHEM Cosmic Tales of the Heart Gone Deadly Wrong Edited by Russ Colchamiro Available in e-book and paperback formats on Amazon. "My personal favorite of these stories was "The Note on the Blue Screen" by Mary Fan. This is a highly unusual Sherlock Holmes story. I need to mention that I have never been a fan of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes, but contemporary twists on the Sherlock Holmes character can engage my attention. Mary Fan gives us an AI (Artificial Intelligence) named Sherlock who is a detective with a loyal female Watson who repairs the AI when it can't repair itself. I thought the story was clever and original. I also loved the relationship between this Sherlock and Watson. I am an instant fan of Mary Fan, who I've never read before. I will definitely want to read more of her work... The stories that I featured in this review made this anthology worth reading, and the discovery of author Mary Fan made it notable." |

In the late 14th century, writer Geoffrey Chaucer provided the work that later generations would remember him for: The Canterbury Tales. Written in Middle English, it depicted the stories of a group of pilgrims on their way to visit the Shrine of St. Thomas Becket in Canterbury. Some centuries later, a group of science fiction and fantasy fans were trapped at a convention hotel thanks to a snowfall of several feet. Stuck in the hotel for extra days, they had to find something to do to fill the time. And as they gathered in the hotel bar, with ninjas next to zombies and Amazons next to Trekkies, they told each other stories like the pilgrims of long ago—making sure to remain in character.
