"Holy AI, Batman, this book is good… What's not to like about a book with AIs, hackers, space ships, and a plucky heroine?" Click here to read the full review. |

"The only way to describe this book is: ‘An unbelievably amazing sequel’ as that is what it truly, truly was. I really-really enjoyed this sequel; it was just as enjoyable, as enthralling and as stunning the last... As in AA, the world building that Mary fan has done is beautiful; The worlds, space-systems, cities, back-alley-slums, the quadrants are all so well detailed and so beautifully painted that it was so simple and easy to picture this sci-fi/future setting which we may have one day, who knows?... I really enjoyed this book; It took me a-while to read because I wanted to take my time and savour this; I loved the first novel so it was un-doubtable that I would love this one aswell…Which I did!" "In this book we see Jane Colt in more of a take-charge position than she was in AA, and we get to see different sides of her in this book. I love her attitude. She's not going to take anyone's sh*t, and even if she comes off as angry or a b*tch, that's okay. It's what made me love her as a female lead. I'm sick of polite, dainty girls who need sidekicks. The world needs more heroines like Jane....The story flows and makes you wish your ereader never needed to be charged! The new characters are a real treat, each of them playing a crucial role in the book and giving us even more characters to love. I swear, Ms. Fan even writes villains in such a way that you just love them! Yes, I'm gushing, but that's only because I am a fan myself....A really excellent book all around! 5/5--a new age of sci-fi!" Click here to read the full review.

"The first book Artificial Absolutes I really liked, and now the sequel is just the same. I actually found myself enjoying the second novel more, which is by an extraordinary, talented, and imaginative visionary, Mary Fan.
I can say with all honesty I haven't been this excited about a science-fiction fantasy style writer in a very long time. If you would've asked me who Mary Fan was a month ago, I would've told you I had no knowledge, and that is another shame in the writing world, for her writing is so brilliantly weaved into a futuristic, imaginative journey, that the reader can't help be enthralled with.
What makes this book standout just like the first one, Mary Fan is able to take her characters, and give them a voice. So many science-fiction and fantasy characters in books end up lost on the page, and don’t become real, that is where Mary Fan is able to craft a mastery, and a difference in her characters. Her characters come to life, and grow on you.
Mary Fan is what I consider the very embodiment of what imaginative storyteller’s are all about. When you read Synthetic Illusions, or get to know Jane and Adam and Devin. You get to feel emotional pain, and anger, frustration, drama, but most of all their ability to be alive, even with the futuristic fancy. The individuals described on the page, both Jane and Adam and Devin, are extraordinarily crafted, so that the reader can understand, feel their plight, take a part of their journey.
Deeper story, and deeper character development makes this sequel a must read. I loved the actions, persona's, and deep moments of emotional plight taking place. The book grabs a hold of your mind, body, and takes it on the imaginative trip that Mary Fan, weaves with word excellence.
Mary Fan, dare I say is the very heart of what science fiction is all about. She bleeds on page the modern-day wonders of what Robert A Heinlein was about. She bleeds the soul of who Ray Bradbury was. She bleeds on page imagination and gives the world the beating heart of who Isaac Asimov was. She has an old school mastery, mixed with the freshness, and new originality, of a modern voice in science fiction. Loved Synthetic Illusions."

"A gripping story that leads you further into the world of AI and further explore the implications of ethics and morals in a world that blurs those lines... Mary Fan brings it, in this thrilling sequel. The action is intense, the storyline is gripping and the characters get you invested." Click here to read the full review.

"The part of the story that matters most are those timeless questions and themes that can be viewed in a different way through the prism of the fictional environments where they’re taking place." |

"The story had conflicted and steadfast characters, menacing villains, and an intriguing story-line... Overall, I was very impressed with this author. Several times while I read the book, I thought to myself, 'Wow this woman can write!' Mary Fan loves to sing, and it is great to see that she has also found her voice as an author. More than likely, fans of YA sci-fi will enjoy reading her book. I give Synthetic Illusions a formal rating of 4 out of 4 stars."
